A couple of weeks ago I wrote a paper, for a class in media and communication studies, about weblogs, citizen journalism and the public sphere. The paper begins with an account and critique of Habermas concept of the public sphere. After that I discuss cultural and economical developments within western news media and how it has affected contemporary news organization. Special attention is given to how media has increased the transformation of visibility of actions and the new possibilities for interaction between the former audience and the producers of news content. The paper finishes with a discussion of weblogs and citizen journalism as a potential emerging public sphere.
